PP+GF (Glass Fibre Reinforced PP): Lightweight, Stiff, and Dimensionally Stable
Higher stiffness & stability: glass fibre boosts modulus and reduces thermal expansion/warpage for tighter tolerances.
Reduced creep: better long-term load-bearing performance for fixtures and mounts.
Chemical & moisture resistance: inherits PP’s resistance to many aqueous media; low moisture uptake.
Heat capability: typical continuous service ~100–120 °C; HDT can be higher depending on GF loading & test conditions.
Lightweight / cost-effective High stiffness / stability Low creep Chemical resistant / low moisture Electrical insulation
Applications
- Automotive interior/functional parts (brackets, clips, housings — mid-temp zones)
- Appliance & power-tool housings (stiffness, anti-warp)
- Industrial jigs/fixtures and mounts (low creep, stable dimensions)
- General structures (covers, supports, guides)
Limitations: reduced low-temp toughness; UV stabilisers recommended outdoors; avoid strong oxidisers/aromatic solvents or ultra-pure chemical contact.
Selection Highlights
- PP+GF: stiff, low-creep & economical → general structures, appliances, interior auto parts.
- PP (unfilled): better toughness / lower cost → low-load or non-structural parts.
- PEEK / PEEK+GF: much higher heat & stability → harsh high-temp environments.
- PPS: chemical resistance & FR → E/E insulating components.
- PVDF / PFA / PTFE: high chemical resistance / purity → fluid-contact & corrosion service.
- RENY / PEI: very high strength or high heat → load-bearing & elevated-temp structures.
