PI (Polyimide): Ultra-heat, wear-resistant, low-outgassing
Ultra heat capability: typical continuous around ~260 °C; higher short-term peaks.
Wear & low creep: low wear under load/temperature with excellent long-term dimensional stability.
Electrical & vacuum readiness: stable dielectric properties and low outgassing for clean/vacuum use.
Processing: most grades are non-melt-processable; CNC from sintered shapes. Limited thermoplastic PI grades exist for molding.
~260 °C continuous Wear / low creep Dimensional stability Low outgassing Electrical insulation
Applications
- Semiconductor / vacuum: jigs/shims, sliders, thermal barriers, low-outgassing clamps
- Aerospace: bushings, bearing seats, insulators
- Automotive & electronics: turbo-adjacent wear parts, ECU housings/thermal isolators
- Industrial: high-temp slides, wear rings, seal supports, electrical isolation parts
Limitations: hot water/steam may accelerate hydrolysis; manage humidity and pre-dry. Evaluate strong acid/alkali exposure.
Selection highlights
- PI: top heat class + low outgassing/wear → vacuum, high-temp sliding & insulation.
- PEEK / PEEK+GF: high heat + moldable → strong structures, jigs & E/E parts.
- PEI: high heat, melt-processable → high-temp insulating housings & thin-wall parts.
- PPS / PPS+GF: FR & chemical resistance → E/E and under-the-hood structures.
- PTFE / PFA: extreme chemical inertness/ultra-pure → sealing & wet-process (weaker mechanics).
